Q. The string on my pull starter broke. What should I do?

A. We can fix it, bring it into the shop. (usually under $20). Beware of fixing this part yourself. The pulley is spring loaded and can be sharp, or hard to handle. Scotty's repairs hundreds of recoils every year.

Q. I have a reel mower that doesn't cut very well anymore.

A. Reel mowers such as McLane, Pro-Master, Tru Cut and Trimmer need to be sharpened every year to keep the precision cut. Scotty's lawnmower has the expertise and equipment necessary to sharpen and fine tune your front-throw reel mower.

Q. Is it worth fixing my lawnmower, or should I buy a new one?

A. Most mowers are worth fixing. We keep track of prices and we are happy to consult you on available options and we offer free estimates. If your mower costs more than half it's value to fix we might direct you toward buying a new mower. Scotty's has a limited selection of used lawnmowers, as well as high quality commercial mowers.

Q. My machine's been sitting for a while and now it won't start.

A. Old gas is the most common cause of engine failure. When gas is older than 2 months it can go bad. (you can tell by the smell, but don't smell too deeply) Old gas can rot the diaphragms in the carburetor which control the flow, and pump the gas through the carburetor and to the engine. To solve this problem Scotty's offers carburetor rebuild service, or diaphragm kits for the do-it-yourselfer.

Q. My engine doesn't start after it sat out in the rain.

A. Water in the gas tank is a common cause of engine failure. Water can collect in the tank from rain, sprinklers, and condensation. Empty out the gas tank and fill with fresh gas. If this does not work you should bring the machine in for carburetor service.

A. We fix chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, gopeds, go-karts, almost anything with a small engine. And we can sharpen your chainsaw while you wait
